The Audiobookmobile hits the road!

AudioBookMobileFB_1The Audio Publishers Association (APA) has created a custom-wrapped “Audiobookmobile” that will travel to book festivals and libraries in five cities from August 30 to September 27, 2014, giving away prizes and downloads with the aim of introducing the audio format to new listeners.

APA president Michele Cobb explains that the “Audiobookmobile seemed like a great and fun way to reach a wide audience. We also decided to partner with AudioFile to put on performance events where people could see narrators in action and have a chance to learn more about the growing world of audiobooks.”

The Audiobookmobile will make stops at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC (8/30), Baltimore Comic Con (9/6), and the Brooklyn Book Festival (9/21) as well as libraries in Philadelphia and Darien, CT. The library stops will include live performances.

The truck is outfitted with speakers and a video screen to broadcast audio and video clips. One side of the truck asks attendees to fill in the blank “I love audiobooks because…” and share their reasons via social media using the hashtag #listenlit. Attendees will also have the chance to spin a prize wheel mounted to the side of the Audiobookmobile for a chance to win giveaways including headphones, t-shirts, buttons, and posters.
