Christian Fiction Reviews, June 15, 2012

There’s something for everyone in this summer’s CF offerings. Tyndale House builds on the hype over Mayan 2012 end-of-days prophesies with Sigmund Brouwer and Hank Hanergraaff’s T he Last Temple, the final installment in the Last Disciple trilogy. Historicals remain a strong category for publishers like Harvest House, which is releasing Lori Copeland’s When Love Comes My Way. Hachette’s FaithWords imprint turns toward the not-so-distant future with Mortal, Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee’s second supernatural Book of Mortals thriller. Simon & Schuster’s Howard Books imprint and Revell will give suspense fans their vacation reading fix with Davis Bunn’s Hidden in Dreams and Irene Hannon’s Lethal Legacy. Those in the mood for romance will find pleasure in two titles from Abingdon: Barbara Cameron’s The Heart’s Journey and Krista Phillips’s Sandwich, With a Side of Romance. Meanwhile, Thomas Nelson delivers up Amish fiction at its best in Kathleen Fuller’s Faithful to Laura.

Librarians, get out those ordering cards‚ there’s plenty here you will want to purchase. Enjoy!

Nine years have passed since Rom Sebastian drank a vial of ancient blood and became human again in a world that had become dead. He has gathered others who have also regained their mortality, but The Order has raised an army to destroy the Mortals. VERDICT This edgy, suspenseful, winning follow-up to Forbidden continues Dekker’s return to the New Testament Christian allegories (Circle series) that made him so popular with CF readers. Expect long waiting lists and consider ordering multiple copies. Recommend this title to fans of Irene Hannon and Travis Thrasher.

Cole Taylor digs for clues and uncovers a connection between Kelly and an old crime. Somebody wants Kelly dead. VERDICT Compelling characters and edge-of-your-seat action make this a winning finale to two-time RITA Award winner Hannon’s Guardians of Justice series (Deadly Pursuit; Fatal Judgment). While this tale of romantic suspense is a sure bet for fans, it can also be read as a stand-alone and should garner new readers who enjoy the thrillers of Sibella Giorello.
