Try The March of Time® here for free

This is so cool I’m wriggling with glee on my sofa as I write the post — Alexander Street Press is letting e-Views’ readers brief trial The March of Time¬Æ film series, which they’ve recently made available in online streaming video in a single, cross-searchable collection (for more background check out this Wikipedia article about the series). These videos have been restored by HBO Archives, allowing present-day viewers the opportunity to view these newsreels and films as audiences did during the early- to mid-twentieth century. The series is available via annual subscription or one-time purchase, and requires no special software or setup, just access to the Internet and a browser.

To access The March of Time® just go to: and use the following logins:

Username: eviews

This free trial is good until June 8, 2012, so do enjoy it till then. My thanks to Audrey DeGregorio of Alexander Street Press for setting this trial up.

More as it happens,

Cheryl LaGuardia About Cheryl LaGuardia

Cheryl LaGuardia always wanted to be a librarian, and has been one for more years than she's going to admit. She cracked open her first CPU to install a CD-ROM card in the mid-1980's, pioneered e-resource reviewing for Library Journal in the early 90's (picture calico bonnets and prairie schooners on the web...), won the Louis Shores / Oryx Press Award for Professional Reviewing, and has been working for truth, justice, and better electronic library resources ever since. Reach her at, where she's a Research Librarian at Harvard University.
