Bittman's How To Cook Everything Apps

Wiley announced this morning that Mark Bittman’s How To Cook Everything Vegetarian is now available as an iPhone/iPod Touch app. Bittman’s classic How To Cook Everything, released as an app in April 2010, has had more than 500,000 downloads and received a glowing review from Kirkus.

The Vegetarian app, for $4.99, includes the entire contents of the book (more than 2000 recipes) along with additional features like search filters by ingredient, customizable shopping lists, and timers built-in among the recipe steps.

Bittman told LJ in 2009 about his interest in moving forward and changing things, a goal easily met by his prolific output and the new features he’s added here (his top 100 recipe picks from the book and featured recipes updated weekly). An iPad version of the app is in the works, although no release date has yet been set.

LJ‘s Book Buying Survey found that cooking ebooks were low circulators, but cookbooks seem particularly suited to app form rather than standard ebooks that can be purchased and circulated via OverDrive.
