While the umbrella term LGBTQ encompasses numerous identities, it only begins to address the diversity among marginalized communities. Fortunately, the rise of self-publishing allows for broader representation, particularly from “own voices.” The three f/f titles reviewed below, available through SELF-e, showcase both the hardships and successes faced by lesbian characters.

Books for All: Self-Publishing at FlameCon | SELF-esteem

On August 20 and 21, downtown Brooklyn provided the LGBTQ community a safe space to geek out at the second annual FlameCon. Attendees descended upon the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott to get their fill of fan-crafted merchandise and to discuss everything from representation in nerdy media to their favorite fanfiction. Saturday afternoon began with a panel simply titled “Self-Publishing,” moderated by King Features Syndicate’s editorial project manager Tea Fougner, dressed up like X-Men’s Emma Frost.
