Excerpts from the audio interview:
Q: How did you make the transition from theater into movies?
A: My big break was MacBird! with Joe Papp. … Coming into film, I was very insecure and self-conscious in front of the camera. Gordon Willis, the great cameraman, noticed I was uneasy. So he took me over and actually introduced me to the cameras: “Stacy, I’d like you to meet Mitch and Arri.” [laughs]. It was a brilliant suggestion and completely relaxed me.
Q: You’ve narrated audiobooks before. What was it like reading your own book?
A: [Laughs] I was very self-conscious at first. Then — this is going to sound strange — I treated myself as a narrator reading a book about Stacy Keach. I created a character: It’s me, but it’s a version of me — personal and informal and accessible.
