Barnes, Sophie. How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back. Avon Impulse. Feb. 2012. 268p. eISBN 9780062190321. EPUB $3.99. REGENCY ROMANCE
It seemed to everyone that Emily Rutherford’s days of spinsterhood were over. Marriage to her childhood friend Adrian Fairchild would be the culmination of her girlhood dreams and ensure the possibilities of acquiring prosperous husbands for her sisters. But when Adrian offers marriage to her best friend, Kate, Emily’s heart is broken. With her ambitions of wedded bliss smashed, Emily allows herself to wallow in heartache. But her sisters and Adrian’s high-born cousin Francis Riley, the Earl of Dunhurst, cannot allow Emily’s spirits to ebb for long. A London season, hosted by Francis, provides the Rutherford sisters with a much-needed holiday and the opportunity for husband hunting. It may also prove to be the chance for two unlikely people to fall in love.
Verdict This debut novel sweeps three deeply likable sisters from the countryside to the high-class life of Regency London. Emily and her sisters have their weaknesses, but their enjoyment and confidence in one another make for a solid foundation for the story. Francis is the appropriately brooding male, but his character and actions beyond this persona win sympathy and affection. This is Regency romance with satisfying steamy bits. Although the book is melodramatic at times, readers will enjoy the pleasant and well-written story.‚ Debra M. Dudek, Fountaindale P.L. Dist., Bolingbrook, IL

Carew, Opal. Passion Play. Samhain. (Celestial Soul-Mates, Bk. 3). 2012. 217KB. eISBN 9781609289478. EPUB. $3.50. SF/EROTIC ROMANCE
In the latest installment of the Celestial Soul-Mates series (after The King and I and The Commander’s Woman), Crystal is abducted by a very handsome alien named Terrian. Crystal and several other women have won a vacation as part of a contest. The women don’t realize when they get on an elevator that their lives will be changed forever. Terrian has come to Earth to bring his soul-mate, Crystal, back to his planet. Crystal feels an instant connection with Terrian but doesn’t quite understand it. She’s a very sexual person but isn’t sure that she can commit to one person. She doesn’t comprehend that her decision hurts the one person who cares about her the most. Will this decision cost her the best thing that’s ever happened to her?
Verdict This novella features two lovers: one who knows what he wants and the other who can give pleasure but doesn’t think that she can receive it. Bondage adds a little excitement to an already sexually charged story. Carew (The Stranger) makes sure this story has plenty of heat to satisfy her series fans.‚ Lynn Reynolds, Westfield State Univ. Reese, Lainey. Snowfall. Samhain. Mar. 2012. NAp. eISBN 9781609285883. EPUB $3.50. CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
Ashley is looking forward to a winter alone with her dogs in her mountain home. However, Dr. Jake Eagle Feather has other ideas. Jake and his partner Poncho want to spend the winter studying the cougars living on the mountain. Some lately have become more aggressive, going so far as to attack campers, which is very unusual. When a cougar attacks Jake as he and Poncho are unloading their equipment, Ashley has to no choice but to allow them to move in for the winter. The more time Jake and Ashley spend together, the warmer it gets regardless of the snowfall. Poncho is a great sidekick and knows just when to step out to avoid getting burned by the chemistry between Jake and Ashley.
Verdict If the winter cold and snow have you shivering, Reese’s (A Table for Three) latest will warm you up in a hurry! Snowfall is a short but steamy romance (several very explicit sex scenes), with great characters and an engaging story. Look for Reese’s soon-to-be-released Damaged Goods for more heat.‚ Lisa M. Jordan, Johnson Cty. Lib., Spring Hill Branch, KS

Watterson, Kate. Reckless Territory. Samhain. Feb. 2012. NAp. eISBN 9781609287795. EPUB $4.50. HISTORICAL/EROTIC ROMANCE
RecklessTerritory0203 Xpress Reviews: E Originals | First Look at New Books, February 3, 2012Lady Victoria Mead was raised in an affluent English home with all of the benefits that come with being the daughter of an earl. But owing to her father’s mishandling of funds, Lady Victoria finds herself penniless and crossing America with her aunt and uncle on a wagon train. An attack on the group leaves everyone dead, except for Victoria, who ends up half-naked and alone‚ only to be rescued by not one but three sexy outlaws. Jace, Robert, and Cole have seen their fair share of violence and gunplay, but they are out of their league when it comes to this English damsel in distress. These outlaw ranching partners find themselves shamelessly in love with the fair beauty, each one learning to let go‚ even while holding on tight.
Verdict Not the typical tale of love on the wild frontier, Reckless Territory is the story of complicated love among three wild frontier men and one proper English lady. Can one woman have all of her heart’s desires? Is love boundless when it is set free? Lady Victoria puts these questions to the test, and, oh, what she learns will burn up the pages! A scorching read, full of romance, lust, and love.‚ Judy Garner, ECPI Univ. Lib., Glen Allen, VA
