Finally a Google Service I Will Never Use

“Never say never,” the pundits quip, but this is one time I can — just heard about Google’s new Flight service, which they’ve put into play in competition with Cheap Flights, Kayak, and Orbitz, and it’s the first Google service yet that I never anticipate using, since I don’t fly.

I wish that Google would start up a competitive train service in this country, however, and not just for booking — why not the Google Train System? Given Google’s track record (oops! dreadful pun — sorry) I’m pretty sure they could come up with a viable alternative to Amtrak. And I truly believe that what this country needs is a European-style passenger train system and NOT a good five cent cigar.

More as it happens,
Cheryl

Cheryl LaGuardia About Cheryl LaGuardia

Cheryl LaGuardia always wanted to be a librarian, and has been one for more years than she's going to admit. She cracked open her first CPU to install a CD-ROM card in the mid-1980's, pioneered e-resource reviewing for Library Journal in the early 90's (picture calico bonnets and prairie schooners on the web...), won the Louis Shores / Oryx Press Award for Professional Reviewing, and has been working for truth, justice, and better electronic library resources ever since. Reach her at claguard@fas.harvard.edu, where she's a Research Librarian at Harvard University.
