I’ve been MIA from this blog since I started editing a little e-newsletter called BookSmack! Although the name sounds hostile or even druggy dysfunctional, its aim is true—to help librarians, especially those in collection development, do their jobs better. We achieve this, we hope, with shorter, more to-the-point reviews of books that don’t get much coverage in the mainstream press, e.g., urban fiction and nonfiction, or street lit. And we frame popular subjects—young adult fiction—so that they can thrive in another way.
Before the launch in October, there were debates about the
