Watched the film Jumper this morning, a surprisingly spry B sci-fi action flik based on Steven Gould’s 2002 novel. The plot essentially follows David Rice (Hayden Christiansen), an Ann Arbor high school kid who discovers he can “jump” (teleport) anywhere. David discovers his special talent after falling through the ice in a frozen pond. One second he’s drowning and the next he and about 100 gallons of water suddenly are in the stacks at the Ann Arbor Public Library! The library actually comes back into play a few times throughout the film and takes a beating that will make you cringe.
There are some holes in the plot, but it looks great and the action is fun and Christiansen somewhat redeems himself for his lousy Star Wars performances (fellow Prequel vet Samuel L. Jackson also stars as the film’s villain). Give it a shot.
Completely unrelated, but happy anniversary to The Catcher in the Rye, published this day in 1951.
