Awhile back I commented that the trailer for the latest big screen incarnation of Marvel Comics’ staple The
Incredible Hulk only looked so-so (click on the black YouTube box below to view it). Apparently I was right: I read four reviews for the film, which opens today, in this morning’s papers in which all of the critics essentially kicked its big, green butt, calling it not so incredible. One guy even said it’s not even as good as the truly cheesy TV show with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno painted green with a slab of clay slapped on his forehead—ouch!. The blurb in the film’s ad also comes from the fan site Aint It Cool News rather than from a print or TV reviewer, also not a good sign.
Fanboys think critics are idiots, and are more likely to trust fat Harry at Aint It Cool than the NY Times reviewer, so it’ll be interesting to see Monday’s numbers for this film. Hulk might have gotten smashed by critics, but let’s see if he can go green at the box office.
