After initially supporting James Frey on Larry King Live on January 11th, Oprah Winfrey took it all back in a big way today on her talk show. In a clear (and desperate) attempt to distance her sterling franchise from Frey, she invited him back to her couch to endure a ridiculous Q&A session. So pompous was Winfrey's wrath over feeling "duped" that it almost made Frey look good, or at least pathetic enough that you'd consider standing up for him. Although I certainly don't condone his admitted embellishments, moreover I can't stomach Winfrey's hypocrisy or publisher Nan A. Talese's lack of accountability. The former chose A Million Little Pieces for her book club because it was so unbelievable—little boy lost walks the razor's edge and lives!!!—and the latter bought it as a memoir rather than a novel because she knew "reality" recovery sells (and circulates at libraries). Speaking of libraries, can anyone tell me if there's a movement to reclassify Frey's book as fiction?—Heather McCormack
